Flash Carousel Slideshow

Two examples are better than a thousand words: flowers and icons. Other examples are available on this page.

A preliminary version is available. It is free; if you use it for commercial purposes a donation to support the project is strongly encouraged (see Disclaimer below). You can download it here:

Flash Carousel Slideshow     [last update Jan 8, 2008]

Notice that I still have to write documentation. Anyway, it should be fairly easy to look inside HTML and XML files by yourself.

Current features include:

You can link images to any URL: web pages (even with CGI parameters), images, videos, local anchors and even JavaScript functions (see this example). You can also specify a target. Combining these features the Carousel can be used as a very flexible menu.

More than standard web pages:

Perfect integration with LightBox 2.0: see the Carousel and LightBox example. I managed to make it work on a blog post: check it out (tutorial on the blog). It is also possible to include it into a PowerPoint presentation (tutorial inside the ppt). Least but not last, the Carousel is available as a Picasa template (many thanks to Paul van Roekel). And anywhere else you can put Flash media.

Upcoming features include:

I'm also planning to make the Carousel available as SWC compiled components for Flash and Flex developers.

Coming soon

Not very soon in truth. But I have a lot of ideas: stay tuned.

  1. Flip. Fake 3D flip of photos like this example.
  2. Cube. Based on Flip but with two photos at a time, like 2 sides of a cube.
  3. Something like Carousel but with photos displaced at random on a plane (like a lot of photos standing vertical on a table).
  4. Of course something like little slides randomly displaced on the screen: click and zoom.

News: FlashPlayer 10 will have (very basic) 3D primitives to move simple 2D objects in a 3D coordinate system. I'll wait for Flash 10 to implement these new ideas.

Disclaimer and Support

You can use these Slideshows in your personal web pages for free (please support this project with a little donation). If you use any of them for commercial purposes, feel morally obliged to support the project with a donation proportional with the money you earn. Everything is provided as is, I take no responsibility for anything deriving from the use of these Slideshows.

Please do not use my slideshows with pornography, blasphemy, or other offending material.

Please notice that this is not an open source project (at least by now). So don't email me asking for .fla sources. Especially because there is no .fla source: all these Slideshows are (Flex style) ActionScript only projects compiled with mxmlc. I used FlashDevelop for editing.
